Sebastopol is in Sonoma County in the Bay Area of California, and is named after Sevastopol, the Russian seaport on the Cremean peninsula. It became a center of canned applesauce production in the late 19th century and the industry is still important today as are the Gravenstein apple orchards and vineyards that cover the region.
